Beverley Bird is a Brisbane-based contemporary artist, who combines traditional mosaic techniques with unique technical approaches, creating art that reflects her deep connection to nature.

Beverley Bird’s artistic journey began in England, where she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world, a theme that permeates her work. In 2009, Beverley moved to Australia, where she began her pursuit of capturing the unique wildlife and scenic landscapes through her art.

In 2015, she founded Mosaic Aura, a mosaic studio where she teaches and continues to innovate in the field of glass mosaics. Beverley’s work is characterized by its extreme detail and energetic use of color and light, with each piece reflecting her deep connection to her surroundings and her passion for the medium of glass. Her recent exploration into ceramics represents her ongoing commitment to expanding her artistic vocabulary and embracing new challenges.

Beverley has sold her works nationally and internationally as well as participated in local art exhibitions and competitions. Her work has won awards and been sold through galleries and shops.

Through her workshops and personal practice, Beverley aims to inspire others with the beauty of glass mosaics, teaching traditional techniques while encouraging students to find their own artistic voice based on their individual experiences and expressions.

"Art, for me, is a conversation between light, colour, and memory."

My relationship with art is rooted in my childhood fascination with glass. Watching artisans blow glass and forge delicate glass animals sparked my love for this medium. My journey with glass began with lead lighting, which demanded precision and meticulous planning. However, I yearned for a medium that allowed for spontaneity and creative freedom.

Mosaic has become my voice, enabling me to paint with shards of stained glass. I have developed a technique using slither-like pieces to build imagery that changes depending on surroundings and the angle of view. These fragments capture and reflect light, depicting the vivid hues of water at sunset to moonlit forests. My subjects, inspired by the flora and fauna of England and Australia, are intimate portrayals emphasising small details and the spirited glow in the eyes of wildlife.

Recently, I have started blending mosaics with ceramics, creating an evolving unity of mediums that reflects my deep connection to materiality, nature, and art.
